PostSubject: Worst Injury You Have Seen at a Reenactment   Wed Jun 30, 2010 11:06 am

What is the worst injury you have seen at a reenactment. Mine was watching a lady in a ball gown get to close to the fire at Naperville back in the mid 90s who went up in flames really fast. It was one of my very first events, so I didn't know the person or learn who it was.

My own worst injury was cracking a rib when I feel in the dark in 2008. Who knew there was a horse shoe throwing pit on the way to the bathrooms. Ugh. That really hurt.

I remember that. Wauconda has had quite a bit of injuries it seems. That was the first time I ever saw a guy blow his ear drum out with a pistol that chain fired. He had been holding it by his head in an upward position getting ready to fire and boom!

Worst one that I have seen was a point blank rifle fire into another guys face. First time I saw it happen was at Naperville back in the early 90s. I was with a union unit and the confederate force, unscripted of course, charged our unit. Most of my unit just fell to the ground as casualties before they got to us, but one of the guys who did not fall, took the full blast of the rifle to his face. He looked bad, I saw him some time later and he still had un-burnt black power embedded in his face.

The second time I saw this happen was at Keokuk, when a buddy of mine was shot at close range by an Indian reenactor, who was a walk on I think. Luckily it was a yard or so away, but some powder hit his eye. He still has issues with his eye some 20+ years later.

that man who was shot at naperville was kevin naughton a lose friend of my dad he is a good guy gained a few pounds and is a great singer. i saw him a few times last year and he has what looks like freckles on his face. He told me how he was shot at naperville and thanks to video camera's they chought that guy and that just makes me think how dangerous that battle field is. This year a dismount threw some breast works over on to a dead engineer.

Yeah, I've seen that happen a few times. I was shot point blank in the chest once at Glenview and I also had a flamming piece of glue from some idiot who glued his rounds shut stick to my chest -- got a scar from that one. Hum, seems to me Jordan may have a similar story about an idiot shooting him in the face by mistake during a small battle we both took part in.

Anyone ever hear about the guy at a national (Antietam 1997 I believe) who was purposely stabbed in the leg by a Confederate with his bayonnet. That was a scary story. He was laying there wounded and the guy just came up to him and stabbed him. I have no idea if it is true or not, but have heard the story many times over the years.

at the Mississinewa 1812 event one year we blew up an indian with a ground charge, she had wondered away from the fighting and walked over a charge as it went off, blew her skirt off and burned her pretty bad.

good time, good times...

back in the late 90's i heard from other reenactors (beacause our unit had not took the feild yet) that some one fired their rifle with the ram rod still in it. lucky the ram rod only put a hole in the other person uniform

I have never seen this, but I have heard of it happening. I did hear an explosion at an event once way early in my reenacting career 1996 maybe and then the battle stopped. Later it was said that someone had accidently fired a rifle plug that they had put on while it was raining even though they were loaded and it had hit a kids drum, which exploded. Don't remember which event it was. Does any one else remember this. I keep thinking Rockford, but I don't think that was the one.

Jordan don't tell your mom about yours. I don't want to get Bill in trouble.

DJ when did I shoot you in the foot? I don't remember that and I don't think I would have forgotten such a wonderful moment. I do remember shooting Jordan in the face. It wasn't my fault though. He came out of nowhere and surprised me during that little battle thing.

Um, okay, that one was my fault. He did knock his own tooth out though. I didn't do that one.

Wow, I never realized it. That's what happens during those skirmishes when we are fighting within the trees. Hard to see around them.

I had my hand blasted at Bentonville while I was laying dead. All of the sudden I felt quite a bit of head race across the hand. Surprised me.

Saw a horse kick a guy square in the chest in Rockford in the late 1990s. Saw a guy chop off the end of his thumb chopping wood in the 1980s. Funniest one... saw a guy take a major cowboy-like drama hit in 1988 and his canteen swung up a clocked him right in the forehead. you could hear the "bonk" all the way across the field. Everyone of the filed cracked up and the guy had a major egg on his forehead for days afterward.
